Henrik Stiesdal, Senior Technical Advisor to Magellan and Chief Technology Officer at Stiesdal A/S, is one of the pioneers of the modern wind industry. Henrik built his first small wind turbine in 1976 and two years later designed one of the first commercial wind turbines, which he licensed to Vestas in 1979. Henrik worked as consultant for Vestas until 1986. Henrik joined Bonus Energy in 1987 and was named CTO in 2000. He continued to work in this capacity following Siemens Wind Power’s acquisition of Bonus in 2004 until he left Siemens in 2014 to start the Denmark-based climate mitigation technology firm Stiesdal A/S.

Henrik oversaw installation of the world’s first offshore wind farm in 1991 and led the wind turbine generator team for the world’s first floating wind turbine project, based on the Statoil (now Equinor) Hywind foundation, in 2009. At Bonus and Siemens, he patented and led in the commercialization of key offshore wind technologies, including improved blade manufacturing processes and reduced-weight direct-drive turbine designs. At Stiesdal A/S, he has led the development of the Tetra family of modular, industrialized floating foundations. His work on commercialization of new technologies has included extensive work on sales, manufacturing, project implementation, service, and quality control.

Henrik has been awarded more than 800 patents. His awards and honors include Recharge “Floating Wind Power Player of the Year” (2019) award. Other awards and honors include Danish PlanEnergi Green Award (2016), Danish Wind Turbine Owner’s Lifetime Award (2015), the German Wind Association Lifetime Award (2014), EWEA Poul la Cour Prize (2011), “Siemens Top Innovator” (2010), and “Siemens Inventor of the Year” (2008).
